Journal Prompts

✨How do you feel about life? Do you think it is hard or easy? Are you excited about the furniture or concerned about bad things that might happen? Do you identify as optimistic or pessimistic? Which of your life events have confirmed your sense of optimism or pessimism?

✨What do you do that feels nurturing and comforting to you? Write 5 activities you like to do to calm and comfort yourself during times of stress or crisis. When did you start doing these activities? What events occurred around that same time in your life?

✨How do you feel about your body? Do you love it? Does it feel good? Or is it something you drag around with you? How did you feel about your body when you were a child? Do you feel different now? What events shaped your view and feelings about your body?

✨ How do you nourish yourself emotionally? Do you engage in activities that comfort and help you to feel safe and nurtured? If so, what do you do? What about those activities nurtures you? If you do not nourish yourself emotionally, or feel it is not enough, what prevents you from doing more? What excuses or reasons do you give yourself for not nourishing yourself emotionally? 

✨Do you have “control issues”? What are you afraid will happen if you don’t control circumstances and events in your life? Write ten sentences beginning, “If I don’t control __________ in my life, I afraid that…”

✨Are you experiencing any health issues or problems such as (low sex drive, reproductive problems, addictions to drugs or alcohol, depression, body focused repetitive behaviors, strong emotional swings, low back pain, sciatica, urinary tract)? If so, what are they? How long have you had them? What emotional factors might contribute to these problems?

✨What is easier, giving or receiving? Why?

✨Do you feel more powerful or powerless? Write about a time you felt powerful and share it with Dahlya. What were the circumstances? Who else was there? What happened and how did it turn out?How has that event changed you?

✨What kinds of relationships do you have in your life? Do you have many friends or a few friends? What about romantic relationships? Is there a theme that runs through your relationships with others? Write everything that comes to mind about relationships.

✨What is your relationship to creativity? Does creative expression seem to flow from you, or do you wrestle with it? Pretend that creativity is a person. Describe how s/he looks (colors, shapes) tastes (flavors), sounds, feels (emotional/physical), and smells.
